A hut based tour of NZ’s high glaciated Alps
Fancy a multi day ski tour of NZ’s premier glaciers? My NZ style Haute Route makes use of our kiwi style mountain huts on the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers staying at the Almer, Centennial, Pioneer and Chancellor Huts. We use helicopters to access the first hut with great food and tasty wine accompanied by excellent powder or corn skiing right out the door.
We schedule a 7 day trip to allow for inclement weather, with a two day weather window at the start. That means if the weather’s bad we will postpone the start for up to two days. You should expect 4 or 5 days skiing within the week and it’s a great length trip to really get out there and enjoy the amazing terrain over looking the ocean, and close to NZ highest peaks including Aoraki/Mt Cook.
The skiing is not necessarily difficult. You need to be an intermediate skier or snowboarder. Skiing the glaciers is like skiing a low angle off piste run. But if you’re a good skier or boarder, we can hunt out the steeps and get your blood going. It’s up to you……..
